OPEN MIC POETRY READING
Callanwolde’s popular summertime coffee house series returns with live music, coffee and refreshments and open-mic poetry readings. Held in the unique setting of the Callanwolde Library, the evening begins at 7:30 with live acoustic music and at 8:15 the open mic readings are open to poets who would like to read their original poetry. John Kunz, a musician's musician, will sing his own heartfelt and observant songs along with acoustic guitar. He has performed at many acoustic venues in Atlanta including the Freight Room and Lena's Place, as well as playing jazz-style piano around the Southeast. The first ten poets to call and sign up at 404-872-5338 ext. 228 will read for 5 minutes. Tickets are sold at the door. $5 General Admission, $3 Students/Seniors/Members.

Matthew Pitt’s first story collection, Attention Please Now, is the winner of the 2009 Autumn House Fiction Prize. Stories of his were recently cited in the Best American Short Stories, Best American Nonrequired Reading, and Pushcart Prize anthologies. Josh Green is a journalist and fiction writer living in Atlanta. His work has appeared in The Adirondack Review, New South, Lake Effect, Bloodroot, Amarillo Bay, The Indianapolis Star and most recently placed second for the Kneale Award in Purdue University’s 76th Annual Literary Competition. He covers the crime beat for a metro newspaper, adhering reluctantly to facts. Katie Chaple teaches poetry and writing at the University of West Georgia. Her work has appeared in 32 Poems, Antioch Review, Bellevue Literary Review, Crab Orchard Review, Passages North, Southern Humanities Review, Washington Square, and she was the recipient of Southern Humanities Review's Theodore Christian Hoepfner Award as well as awarded a McEver Chair appointment with Poetry@Tech in the spring of 2009.
