Gypsy, Tsigan, Gitane, Cygane, Zigeuner, the Roma people have wandered the
world for a thousand years—their mysterious origins a source of fascination as
well as suspicion. They’ve been romanticized but also brutally persecuted.
Tsigan: The Gypsy Poem is an acclaimed book-length poetic sequence written by
Cecilia Woloch. It intertwines her personal journey of identity with the
larger forces in the world that have shaped the Roma people’s fate and
fortunes. Tsigan has recently been translated into French, and the French
edition was published this spring by Scribe-l'Harmattan.

JUST ADDED "When the bough breaks…" - A Poetry Workshop with Brendan Constantine
Perhaps one of our oldest lyric traditions is the Lullaby. Every culture has its own examples and many of the world's celebrated poets have written them. So why does this enduring form almost never appear in standard guides to poetics? What makes a lullaby and why is it so hard to define? Los Angeles poet, Brendan Constantine, offers a generative writing workshop on the poetry of sleep. The workshop will be held at the Decatur Library Auditorium at 6 p.m. before Brendan's reading with Julie. Everyone is invited!

Join Poetry Atlanta and Georgia Center for the Book on Wednesday, June 18, at 7:15 p.m. for a special reading by Brendan Constantine and Julie E. Bloemeke. Brendan is on a cross-country driving tour reading from his recently published and work-in-progress, so come out and show some love to this amazing poet.
His first collection, Letters To Guns (2009 Red Hen Press), continues to receive acclaim and is taught extensively in school throughout the country. He has received grants and commissions from the Getty Museum, the James Irvine Foundation, and the National Endowment for the Arts.
