Decatur Book Festival, September 2-4
The annual event takes over downtown Decatur for a weekend of literary delights. Poetry Atlanta is once again hosting the Local Poetry Stage at Java Monkey Coffee House on Saturday and Sunday. There will be continuous readings both days, with the Invitational Slam on Saturday night at 8 p.m. and the release of Java Monkey Speaks: A Poetry Anthology, Vol. 4 on Sunday night at 8 p.m. Pulitzer Prize-winner Natasha Trethewey will also feature Sunday night. Other noted poets appearing at venues around Decatur over the weekend include Jericho Brown, Michael Montlack, Thomas Lux, Chard diNord, David Bottoms, Collin Kelley, Dorianne Laux and many more. Poetry At Callanwolde: La Vita Poetica 
Join guest poets from La Vita Poetica Press as Callanwolde celebrates the art and performance of poetry with readings in the unique setting of the Callanwolde Library. La Vita Poetica, a small press devoted to the production of limited edition, handcrafted chapbooks, presents a poetry reading by four of their poets, Monica Burchfield, Katie Fesuk, Beth Gylys and Cheryl Stiles, as well as a brief talk about the editorial process and the design and production of the chapbooks by hand. Poetry Atlanta and Georgia Center for the Book present an evening with two noted poets. Fike's debut collection, Lotus Buffet, is out now from Brick Road Poetry Press. Calderwoo won the 2011 AQLF Broadside Contest selected by Mark Doty. The library is at 215 Sycamore Street in Decatur.
